“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” ~ James 1:19 (NIV).
Be encouraged today to become others-centered.
That is what JESUS modeled so well for us when He walked on earth. Be quick to
listen and slow to speak, just like James wrote to us.
Take note that we do have two ears
and just one tongue. We need to be spending more time listening to others and
tending to their needs than running our mouths and caring only about own agenda.
Paul wrote in Philippians 2, that we should
not think only of our own affairs, but should learn to see things from other
people’s point of view. Hmmm…wouldn’t that make earth a different place.
We are to be Christlike. We know from Matthew
20:28 that JESUS did not come to be served, but to serve. That’s why we are
here on earth, too. We are here to glorify our great God in heaven and to serve
him in others. When you listen to someone and help them you and listening to
and helping God.
If you are like me these things, “quick to
listen” and “slow to speak” echo in my head reminding be how to react, but
because of my carnal mind I fall short and don’t always follow JESUS lead although I love Him and intend to be like Him.
Papa…We ask you, O LORD, to forgive us for
not being others-centered like we are called to be. May your Holy Spirit lead us to be better listeners
and in doing so we will be better talkers and more able to help our brothers
and sisters. May our walk match our talk. In JESUS name we ask and pray. Amen.
Shalom,
Praying
