We are to bear fruit…

Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. (Matthew 21:18-19 NIV).

Here again we have a teaching from nature in a message from heaven. Fig trees do not bear leaves without bearing figs. We too were created to bear fruit, but many people are posers in the pews and are all leaves and no fruit.

Jesus was disappointed that day when he went up to the fig tree and found no fruit. When He walks up to you, hopefully, he will not be disappointed in what he finds.

In Galatians 5, God’s holy word tells us that the Holy Spirit will produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness. All these things are attributes of God himself and must grow in us if we are to become more Christ like.

Father God – You are an Awesome Being. We thank you for the Holy Spirit you have given to us. May we be drenched in the spirit, produce fruit, and live the very life that you died to give us. You are faithful to us and your love is unending. Thanks for your mercy, grace and peace. In Jesus name. Amen!
